Clinical applications of preimplantation genetic testing

Abstract: Genetic diagnostic technologies are rapidly changing the way medicine is practiced. Preimplantation genetic testing is a well established application of genetic testing within the context of in vitro fertilization cycles. It involves obtaining a cell(s) from a developing embryo in culture, which is then subjected to genetic diagnostic analysis; the resulting information is used to guide which embryos are transferred into the uterus. The potential applications and use of this technology have increased in recent… Show more

“…In general, data generated from PGS trials 5-10 years ago are markedly different than those from PGS trials performed in more recent years [5]. These differences are most likely due to the dramatic improvements in the application of PGS over time and the ability to test blastocysts [2]. This review will briefly outline both the evolution of PGS and current recommendations for its use.…”

“…In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a technology that has transformed the field of infertility medicine [1][2][3]. While many IVFassociated interventions have emerged over the past decades, few have garnered more attention, both from professionals and society at large, than the introduction of preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) [2].…”
