“…Because thrombosis is responsible for many exertionrelated ischemic events (Giri et al 1999), the persistent increase in vWf:Ag may contribute to exertion-related events that occur following exercise (Ciampricotti et al 1990;Mittleman et al 1993). Currently, the American College of Sports Medicine recommends an AC to enhance venous return and prevent decreased cerebral and cardiac blood flow (Franklin et al 2000).…”

“…Consequently, there is a hemostatic imbalance in the post-exercise period that may positively influence clot formation. Occlusive thrombi are more prevalent in exertion-related events (Giri et al 1999) and exertion triggers ischemic events during and after physical activity (Ciampricotti et al 1990;Mittleman et al 1993); therefore, decreasing potential for coagulation following exercise may have important clinical significance.…”

“…Giri et al reported that patients with an exertion-related MI were more likely to have risk factors including male sex, hyperlipidemia, hypertension and current cigarette smoking (59 % versus 37 % in non exertion-related MI) but in a population of which had known coronary artery disease and older than that of our study (Giri et al 1999). There were 28 cigarette smokers in a population of 42 patients in one study on unstable angina, SMI and SSD related to sport (Ciampricotti et al, 1990). We find in our study, with a small number of patients, few risk factors in this population but often family history of coronary disease and 4/12 patients without risk factor.…”

“…The observations by Airaksinen et al . and the greater increase in dispersion of repolarization during PTCA to the left anterior descending artery in this study might be of clinical relevance for the development of sustained arrhythmias, since there seems to be a preponderance of atherosclerosis of the left anterior descending artery in young victims of sudden death [33, 34].…”
