Clinical Efficacy of HiPorfin Photodynamic Therapy for Advanced Obstructive Esophageal Cancer

Abstract: Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy of HiPorfin photodynamic therapy for advanced esophageal cancer and evaluate its impact on survival. Methods: Retrospective analysis of 32 patients with advanced obstructive esophageal cancer at our institution from September 2013 to December 2016. HiPorfin was infused as the photosensitizer at a dose of 5 mg/kg, and after 48 hours, 630-nm laser irradiation was subsequently performed through an optical fiber that passed through the biopsy channel of a flexible endosc… Show more

“…After three months of follow-up, a complete pathological complete response (pCR) was achieved. The adverse reactions of the enrolled patients during PDT were similar to those reported in the literature (41), mainly transient leukocyte elevation and mild fever, which may be related to inflammatory reactions caused by treatment. Occasionally, patients may have mild abdominal pain, which can be relieved after rest.…”

“…However, both the chemotherapy drugs used in the AP regimen are associated with multiple adverse Chemotherapy in Treating Metastatic Osteosarcoma reactions, and the combination of sintilimab with this regimen did not increase the adverse reactions of patients with metastatic OS. Previous studies have shown that sintilimab can eliminate smiling lesions, 22 delaying and controlling DP and improving patient survival times and rates. Our results showed significantly higher PFS and OS times in patients treated with sintilimab and the AP regimen than in those treated with the AP regimen alone.…”

“…The PDT strategy is also effective in targeting advanced cancers. Zeng et al [148] reported the clinical efficacy of PDT in advanced obstructive esophageal cancer, which could prolong the survival of patients with advanced esophageal cancer. Azaïs et al [149] reported the efficacy of intraperitoneal targeted PDT against advanced epithelial ovarian cancer.…”
