Clinical evaluation of multisurface ART restorations

Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of two different glass-ionomer cements: a high-density (Ketac Molar - ESPE) and a resin-modified cement (Fuji VIII - GC) using the Atraumatic Restorative Treatment technique to restore multisurface cavities in permanent teeth. A total of 60 ART restorations (30 with each material) were placed in schoolchildren (9-16 years of age) by two operators. After a period of 6 months, two independent examiners evaluated 59 restorations according to the criteria used … Show more

“…The present 3-year results of multiplesurface ART restorations are very encouraging and confirm a promising performance of the ART restorations observed after 6 months and 1 year by Cefaly et al [16,17]. Regarding to cavity type, 100% of Class I restorations were considered successful for Fuji VIII and 86.7% for Ketac Molar.…”

“…The clinical criteria used to assess the quality of restorations in the present study (Table 2) were similar to those used in other ART studies [16,17,19]. These criteria are appropriate for clinical evaluations carried out in a field setting and are defined by a description of the reason for success or failures of the restorations [4,8,16,17,19].…”
