Clinical features of clear cell meningioma: a retrospective study of 36 cases among 10,529 patients in a single institution

Abstract: The proportion of CCM in spinal meningiomas is likely to be much larger than that in intracranial meningiomas. CCMs should be resected totally when possible to decrease the risk of recurrence or prolong patient's PFS time.

“…The duration of time is relatively short, varying from 2 to 48 months (median, 3 months). Second, different from the common meningiomas with a women predominance, [21,22] CPA cystic meningiomas prefer to occur in young patients (median age 27.5 years), and no gender predominance was found. Third, in regards to the radiological features, the size of the cystic meningioma in CPA is relatively large, with a median largest diameter of 50 mm (range 30–60 mm).…”

“…IL-6 is a cell-derived cytokine that plays an important role in the body’s inflammatory response and cellular immunity, which can play a dual role in protecting and damaging the central nervous system [ 13 , 14 ]. CRP, a sensitive acute-phase protein synthesized by human liver, has important immunoregulation effects, including stimulating the tissue factor expression of monocytes and macrophages, and increasing the motion and activity of macrophages, which can reflect the degree of inflammatory response in the body [ 15 ]. The load of HHV-8, a major pathogenic factor of MCD, is related to the condition of MCD, and HHV-8 can encode the virus-derived IL-6 during replication, accelerating the onset of disease [ 16 ].…”

“…The secretory subtype is classical in this location, associated with a higher rate of peritumoral edema and seizures [19,25]. Clear-cell meningioma could also be encountered in Meckel's cave and the petroclival region, often mimicking schwannoma, with a predilection for young women and with an aggressive pattern [26][27][28].…”
