“…The prevalence of coronary artery disease among patients above the age of 40 years with valvular disease has varied in previous reports from 20% to 63% for patients with aortic valve disease 3,6 and 8% to 17% among patients with isolated mitral valve disease. 1,9 In this study, the prevalence of coronary artery disease among 75 patients with valvular heart disease was 6.7%.…”

“…The prevalence of significant coronary disease defined by angiography in patients with aortic valve disease has varied in previous reports from 20% to 63%. [3][4][5][6][7][8] Only a few reports have been published on the prevalence of coronary artery disease among patients with mitral valve disease or with multiple valvular involvement. 1,9 The significance of coronary artery disease in patients undergoing valvular surgery has been highlighted by the reports of Linhart et al 3 and Loop et al 10 Most of the authors agree that patients with both diseases should have coronary bypass at the same time as valvular surgery because this will improve the short-and long-term prognoses.…”

“…The incidence of angina pectoris in patients with AS has been reported to range between 30% and 40% in the absence of associated obstructive coronary artery disease [32][33][34][35]. The pathophysiological mechanism of angina is not clear but seems to be due to unbalanced myocardial oxygen supply and demand.…”

“…Sin embargo, la prevalencia de enfermedad coronaria obstructiva en ellos ha mostrado gran variabilidad, desde 34% de los casos (4) , 10% (5,6) y hasta 50% (7) . La similitud en aspectos fisiopatológicos ha llevado al planteamiento del tratamien-to de la estenosis aórtica con estatinas e inhibidores de la enzima convertidora de angiotensina.…”
