Clinical implications of CD4+ T cell subsets in adult atopic asthma patients

Abstract: BackgroundT cells play a central role in chronic inflammation in asthma. However, the roles of individual subsets of T cells in the pathology of asthma in patients remain to be better understood.MethodsWe investigated the potential signatures of T cell subset phenotypes in asthma using fresh whole blood from adult atopic asthma patients (n = 43) and non-asthmatic control subjects (n = 22). We further assessed their potential clinical implications by correlating asthma severity.ResultsWe report four major featu… Show more

“…There was no effect of sex on omalizumab response in this study. The two groups of patients also maintained similar frequencies of CCR4 + central memory (CM) CD4 + T cells which are known to be resistant to current therapies 5 . There was also no difference in the frequency of regulatory B cell subsets 6 .…”

“…T CM s display core molecular signatures and functional attribute characteristics of stem cells[18], however, current common asthma therapeutics, including corticosteroids, can not block T CM s differentiating in T EM [19,20]. In this study, we explored the treatment mechanism of AS-IV in the regulation of proliferation of T CM s.…”
