Abstract: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic functional gastrointestinal disorder that is characterized by the presence of abdominal pain or discomfort and is subtyped by the predominant stool symptoms of constipation, diarrhea, or mixed constipation and diarrhea.
