Clinical Significance of Combined Detection of Serum Tumor Markers in Diagnosis of Patients with Ovarian Cancer

Abstract: Objective: To explore the predictive value of tumor markers, including cancer antigen 72-4 (CA72-4), cancer antigen 15-3 (CA15-3) and cancer antigen 125 (CA125), in single or combined detection, for the diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Methods: 120 patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer from August 2011 to March 2013 and 80 patients diagnosed with benign ovarian tumors were enrolled in this test, along with 50 health examination women randomly selected from the database as controls. Serum levels of CA72-4, CA15-3 … Show more

“…And sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV were calculated in order of 66.7%, 87.2%, 80.8%, 76.4% for this value. But serum CA125 can be elevated in various conditions including benign diseases not only malignancies (Bian et al, 2013) and its predictive role in malignancies was singly limited.…”

“…Ultrasound morphological scoring system should be developed further to improve the detection rate of malignant ovarian tumors (Menon et al, 2010). Considering the fact that ovarian cancers are detected mostly at an advanced stage further research and investment is needed in developing a screening tool as the mortality is very high (Bast et al, 2005;Yurkovetsky et al, 2010;Bian et al, 2013;Li et al, 2013).…”

“…Our data not only imply a potentially promising application of TRPM7 as a valuable prognostic marker, but suggest a possible relationship between the molecular functions of TRPM7 and the carcinogenesis of ovarian cancer. Further studies need to examine the association between TRPM7 and other prognostic biomarkers (Bian et al, 2013) and may identify a prognostic panel including multiple risk factors in ovarian cancer patients (Ma et al, 2012).…”
