Clinical Significance of Preoperative Virtual Colonoscopy for Evaluation of the Proximal Colon in Patient With Obstructive Colorectal Cancer

Abstract: PurposeVirtual colonoscopy is the most recently developed tool for detecting colorectal cancers and polyps, but its effectiveness is limited. In our study, we compared the result of preoperative virtual colonoscopy to result of preoperative and postoperative colonoscopy. We evaluated also the accuracy of preoperative virtual colonoscopy in patients who had obstructive colorectal cancer that did not allow passage of a colonoscope.MethodsA total of 164 patients who had undergone preoperative virtual colonoscopy … Show more

“…At present, surgical resection is the main treatment of CRC (2). However, due to differences in genotypes among different individuals, the incidence of drug resistance during chemotherapy increases significantly (3). Therefore, how to achieve personalized treatment of CRC under the guidance of precision medical treatment has been the focus of treatment in recent years.…”

“…Virtual endoscopy (VE) has emerged as a noninvasive imaging technology that uses computer processing of 3D image datasets (such as CT or MRI scans) to produce simulated visualizations of specific organs of patients similar or equivalent to those produced by standard endoscopic procedures, 6 and more importantly it allows for the visualization of the region of interest at any angle, locating the operation site, reconstructing the anatomical structure surrounding the region, assisting diagnosis and treatment, and simulating surgical procedure 7 . Thus, it has been widely used in ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, neurosurgery, radiology, and gastroenterology 8–11 . The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of VE in MVD for the treatment of TN.…”
