“…Negative psychotic symptoms are considered reflective of the absence or reduction of normal brain function and contribute significantly to long-term morbidity and poor functional outcomes (Foussias et al, 2014). The neurodegenerative process present in schizophrenia may contribute to psychopathology development (especially negative symptoms) and the decline of cognition and poor social functioning (Lin et al, 2013;Szulc et al, 2012). Our study's findings imply that this neurodegenerative mechanism may also exist for meth users with psychotic experiences.…”

“…Concerning cognitive function, previous studies have shown the importance of speed of processing in functional outcome 15,46,47,64. Lin et al reported that all cognitive domains of the MCCB were significantly correlated with the QLS score and among the cognitive domains, speed of processing was most strongly correlated with the QLS score 46. Lystad et al found that the MCCB speed of processing, along with attention, was most strongly related to and predictive of occupational functioning evaluated by the Work Behavior Inventory 47.…”

“…Moreover, since the MCCB was developed, several studies have also reported the relationship between cognitive function measured by it and functional outcome 4252. However, among those studies, few evaluated social function using the QLS 46,49…”

“…As described in the previous sections, both negative symptoms and impaired social cognition exert a deleterious impact on functional outcomes. The emerging evidence suggests that social cognition drives negative symptoms which, in turn, may play an indirect role, mediating the relationship between social cognition with functional outcomes [9,110,111]. Further explorations of this mediating role of negative symptoms have revealed that motivational deficits appear to be particularly important in explaining the relationship between both neurocognitive and social cognitive dysfunction with functional outcomes in schizophrenia [9,79,98].…”
