Clinical Utilities of Anti-Müllerian Hormone

Abstract: The anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) plays an essential role in sex determination in early embryonic development. Through a series of sequential steps that follows inheriting an XY chromosome, Sertoli cell differentiation upregulates the expression of AMH-suppressing Müllerian duct development and maintains the AMH at a high level until puberty. In females, the AMH is produced by granulosa cells of follicles beginning in the second half of fetal life and continues through adulthood, with a steady decline through t… Show more

“…the Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) undeniably plays a crucial role in the deterioration of the Müllerian ducts in the initial stages of life. Several investigations have demonstrated markedly elevated levels of AMH in individuals a icted with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) (20)(21)(22)(23). Given the substantial heredity of PCOS and the role that AMH plays in the early degeneration of Müllerian ducts, high prenatal AMH exposure may cause both PCOS and Müllerian duct abnormalities in female offspring (11).…”

“…While there have been unpublished data demonstrating internal validity by the Mira monitor manufacturers, there have not been any formal studies comparing it to the gold standard of the estimated day of ovulation on ultrasound, and serum correlations need to be externally validated. These results should also be contextualized with regard to ovarian reserve with serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels [ 36 ]. Besides hormonal variations, other key parameters of the menstrual cycle include bleeding patterns and vital sign changes.…”
