“…The type of center in which cases originate may affect this result, given that university centers are more likely to encounter minor salivary glands lesions than major salivary gland lesions, which are generally treated in hospital settings. In the present series, the submandibular gland was the second most frequent localization, followed by minor salivary glands, similar to the report by Saghravanian et al (22), in which 16.25% of cases were minor salivary glands. It should be taken into account that the biopsy results are classified by anatomic site in our hospital and some minor salivary glands may be categorized as of intraoral rather than salivary gland origin, producing a possible underestimation.…”

“…MEC was the most frequent histopathological diagnosis (24.2%), as found by various authors (5,6,11,13,18,19,21,22) followed by AcCC (15.4%) and SCC (11.4%). In some other series, the percentages of MEC and ACC cases were similar (10,15) or ACC was the most frequent (3,7,5,12,14,16,20).…”

“…[1][2][3] The molecular events associated with their development and clinicopathologic heterogeneity are poorly elucidated. 21 The HGF/c-MET pathway has been studied in several types of cancer.…”

“…1 SGTs can be classified as benign tumors characterized by slow growth and indolent disease progression or malignant tumors that progress rapidly and are associated with low survival rates. [1][2][3][4][5] Patients with SGTs experience significant morbidity and debilitating disfigurement from therapy. Surgery is the main treatment option for malignant SGTs, but the 5-year survival rate for stages II, III, and IV is only 20% to 25%.…”

“…(1,2) Regardless of their low incidence, they are of concern due to their differences in microscopic patterns and clinical mannerisms . (3)(4)(5)(6) MEC and adenoid cystic carcinoma are the most common salivary gland malignancies. (1) Histopathologic examination of MEC shows that a tumor consist of nests and islands of epidermoid, mucous, and intermediate cells with cystic spaces of various sizes in a fibrous stroma.…”
