Clinicopathological Features and Survival Data of Localized Renal Masses in Young Adults

Abstract: Purpose:Renal tumors are rarely seen in young adults. In this study, was aimed to report the data of 18-40 years old patients with Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) whom we operated.Material and Method:We retrospectively reviewed the data of patients between the ages of 18 and 40 years old patients who have renal masses. All patients were evaluated with chest X-ray, Computed tomography (CT) and/or MRI. Radical or partial nephrectomy was performed for clinical localized masses with malignancy suspicion. Clinicopatholo… Show more

“…Furthermore, studies have shown that the probability of observing a benign lesion after histopathological evaluation in patients undergoing surgery for RCC is higher in women. Aslan et al reported 35% of young women having benign lesions after surgery, while this rate was only 13.6% in men, and this difference was statistically significant ( 26 ). Similarly, Yikilmaz et al also reported a significantly higher rate of benign lesions in young women ( 20 ).…”

“…In the general population, the detection rate of benign tumors in patients who had surgery for RCC was reported as being around 11-16% (23)(24)(25). Aslan et al conducted a study evaluating localized renal masses in patients aged <40 years, and reported that 24% of the patients were diagnosed with benign lesions (26). According to Yikilmaz et al, a benign lesion was discovered during pathological examination in 16% of the patients aged <50 years (20).…”

“…In the present study, patients who underwent partial or radical nephrectomy due to renal mass over five years were evaluated and factors such as age, gender, type of operation, and pathological characteristics such as tumor The results indicated that female patients had almost twice as many benign masses as male patients and the rate of malignant tumors was higher in male patients and a significant relationship was found between them. In a study by Aslan et al in Turkey, although benign tumors were more common in women, no significant relationship was found between the two variables (5). In another comparison, the age and type of surgery were evaluated, which showed that the rate of partial nephrectomy decreased with age, while the rate of radical nephrectomy increased with age.…”
