“…Clinically, the tumor is characterized by a propensity for perineural spread, relentless slow growth, high frequency of local and distal recurrence as well as poor long term survival (1, 5, 9, 1115, 17, 18). …”

“…Overall, ACC has been reported to have a 5-year survival rate of 55% – 89% (3, 712), 15 or 20-year survival of 23 – 40% (5, 11, 12), local recurrence rate of 16– 67%, and DM rate of 8 – 46% (1, 9, 11, 1315). The 5-year and 20-year recurrence free survival in our cohort was 66% and 36% respectively, emphasizing the tendency of ACC to develop late recurrence.…”

“…Histological specimens can be divided into three groups: tubular, cribriform, or solid. Because patients with solid AdCC are especially likely to present with distant metastases, they are the strongest candidates for further surveillance and preventative treatment (5). The use of molecular approaches to elucidate the pathways involved in invasion and migration should significantly add to our understanding of AdCC pathogenesis.…”

“…The clinical course of ACC is characterized as distant metastasis; one study found that 20 % of patients developed distant metastases over the course of their follow-up [17]. Patients who were diagnosed with early-stage disease and without local recurrence of the primary tumors could also develop distant metastases [18].In one series, rate of distant metastasis was reported as 47.8 % with mean time to distant metastasis reported as approximately 5 years [19].In the current study 8 (25.8 %) patients had evidence of distant metastasis. Additionally, we did not find that increased age was associated with increased recurrence rate or overall survival which is in contrast with other study [20].…”
