Cloud Remote Sensing Using Midwave IR CO2 and N2O Slicing Channels near 4.5 μm

Abstract: Narrow channels located in the longwave IR CO 2 absorption region between approximately 13.2 and 14.5 μm, the well known CO 2 slicing channels, have been proven to be quite effective for the estimates of cloud heights and effective cloud amounts as well as atmospheric temperature profiles. The designs of some of the near-future multi-channel earth observing satellite sensors cannot accommodate these longwave IR channels. Based on the analysis of the multi-channel imaging data collected with the NASA Moderate R… Show more

“…GIS is an important tool that uses remotely sensed data for disaster management information which helps in identifying escape routes and locations for storage of temporary housing, and analyzes the damage assessment incurred during disaster. Web-technology have prompted the educators scientists and experts to start developing web-based decision making tools which agree to planners and other government decision makers to use GIS data layers for making disaster management decisions [7,[12][13][14][15]. Weather forecasts are based on satellite-captured images that can be accessed via the Internet.…”

“…Stereoscopic measurements, i.e., multi angle observations, in combination with a 3-D reconstruction modeler, are the only way to achieve this objective [16][17][18]. As for hyperspectral imaging [19][20][21][22], spectral data must be collected simultaneously by at least three different remote devices combined with a specific reconstruction procedure [23][24][25]. Without such an approach, the spatial distribution of the different gas components can only be expressed in terms of the correlation coefficients of gas occurrences and path concentration (ppm.m).…”
