Clustering and recent transmission of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in a Chinese population

Abstract: PurposeThe objectives of the present study were to characterize the clinical isolates prevailing in the northeast of Jiangsu and to investigate the mode of transmission. The study also aimed to explore the extent to which Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains contributed to drug resistance and the possible factors related to the recent transmission.Patients and methodsWe consecutively enrolled 912 culture-confirmed pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) cases from 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2014 in Lianyungang City, whic… Show more

“…The occurrence of TB is often affected and constrained by many complicated factors, which enables the TB incidence series to exhibit complex linear and nonlinear interactions, and thus simply using the single linear or non-linear methods fails to excavate its entire information reasonably well. 29,40 In this study, we devoted to constructing a forecasting method with robust and accurate performance that can be used to analyze and estimate its secular trends and seasonal variation by considering the linear and non-linear clues hidden behind the TB morbidity series in China simultaneously. Moreover, the results emerged from a series of comparative experiments proved that we have succeeded.…”

“…The occurrence of tuberculosis is usually affected by various factors, and it is often difficult to identify all the characteristics of the disease sequence 34,35. Simply using the linear or nonlinear model cannot extract adequate information.…”

“…Our low recent transmission rate (6.8%), determined by the clusters in relation to the total number of isolates, is possibly due to the short time of sampling, same limitation found by Xu et al . [ 52 ]. The comparison of recent transmission rate is a valuable information to monitor strain transmission over the years [ 53 ].…”
