“…Three-layered plate with C/SiC rigid-felt titanium alloy is an advanced thermal-mechanical protection structure, which shows more advantages with low density, good thermal insulation and high impact resistance. 1,2 It is no doubt that both the designing and the characterisation on C/SiC rigid-felt titanium alloy plate not only depend on the mass and velocity of the impactor but also on mechanical properties and geometry of the multilayered plate. “…For this reason, SiCbased materials have been proposed, and widely investigated, for engineering applications in nuclear reactors, 1,2 turbine engines, 1,[3][4][5] and thermal protection systems of space vehicles. [6][7][8][9] As for other ceramic materials, the main concern with SiC materials relates to their poor fracture toughness. Nevertheless, SiC can be appreciably toughened by using ceramic fibers (e.g., carbon or SiC fibers) that allow for changing the fracture mechanism, thus increasing the fracture work by means of debonding at the fiber/matrix interface, crack bridging, and fiber pull-out.…”
