This chapter reviews the literature reported during 2007 on the actinide and transactinide elements.
HighlightsHighlights include the first experiments on the chemistry of element 112 and further reports on element 108 (hassium); the determination of the structures of a number of aqua ions, notably the 10-coordinate thorium aqua ion (the highest yet known) and studies in room temperature ionic liquids. Among much striking molecular chemistry, particularly from the groups of Ephritikhine, Evans and Marks, one may note some fine catalytic work; novel syntheses of organouranium compounds with chalcogenide ligands, a uranyl(VI) borohydride and the first cyclopentadienyl complex of uranyl; and finally, the first (unstable) URC bond.
