Co-creating blockchain adoption: theory, practice and impact on usage behavior

Abstract: PurposeGiven the growing importance of blockchain technology (BT), the authors use the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), which posits that BT adoption intention depends on the complementarity between UTAUT and blockchain transparency (BTRAN) and examine it in a new setting: the boundary condition of perceived helpfulness.Design/methodology/approachThe authors review the major conceptual literature on both UTAUT and BT to identify their principal common factors. They examine the comple… Show more

“…It also builds traceability in the system, which improves efficiency and performance. Previous studies done in the context of blockchain technology adoption have empirically validated that performance expectancy is an important factor that positively impacts the intention to adopt blockchain technology (Queiroz and Fosso Wamba, 2019;Gil-Cordero et al, 2020;Alazab et al, 2021;Tran and Nguyen, 2020).…”

“…Secondly, for developing the conceptual framework, we have used the four factors from UTAUT model (Venkatesh et al , 2003) with four additional factors to explore the adoption of blockchain technology in government organizations. Future studies can consider the other models either individually or in a combination: TOE framework (Tornatzky and Fleischer, 1990), DOI (Rogers, 1995), TAM (Davis, 1989) and TTF (Goodhue and Thompson, 1995). The third limitation of the study is that we have not included the moderators of the UTAUT model in the conceptual framework; it is fruitful to include the moderators for the better explanation of the dependent variable.…”
