“…The application of anaerobic digesters as co-digestion systems has become an important tool for owners of anaerobic digesters, particularly municipal systems. An analysis of the objectives and benefits of co-digestion was performed (Schafer and Lekven, 2008) in order to identify important considerations to agencies with anaerobic digesters. The analysis shows that tipping fees provide added revenue, additional biogas is produced when using co-digestion, and that the specific biogas production for European codigestion systems lies between 2.5 and 4 ft 3 /(d•ft 3 -tankage) versus 0.75 to 1.25 ft 3 /(d•ft 3 -tankage) for U.S. sludge digestion systems.…”
