Co-existence of mucin-producing urothelial-type adenocarcinoma of the prostate and inverted papilloma of the bladder

Abstract: Adenocarcinoma of prostate with mucinous differentiation arising in the male urethra is extremely rare, with only 21 cases reported in the previous literature. A diagnosis of mucin-producing urothelial carcinoma of the prostate is based on the pathology, immunohistochemistry, and clinical examination by excluding the secondary adenocarcinoma of the prostate. “…Immunohistochemical analysis is useful for the diagnosis of MPUAP, 3,8–10 suggesting the need for the surgical excision of the primary lesion 3,4 . MPUAP is negative for PSA or CDX2 (which is frequently positive in cases with enteric features), 4 but positive for CK7, CK20, CK34βE12 (potential urothelial markers), and CEA in immunohistochemical analysis 11 . The present case revealed negative PSA and positive CDX2, CK7, and CK20 findings.…”

“…The mucin-producing urothelial-type adenocarcinoma of the prostate is a rare type, and only 25 cases were reported in the literature. [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10] The largest series were published by Osunkoya and Epstein with 15 patients in 2007. [3] The most specific finding was mucusuria in patients referred with urinary obstruction (in 20% of the patients).…”
