Co(II) anchored glutaraldehyde crosslinked magnetic chitosan nanoparticles (MCS) for synthesis of 2,4,5‐trisubstituted and 1,2,4,5‐tetrasubstituted imidazoles

Abstract: A simple, highly efficient and green synthesis of 2,4,5-trisubsituted and 1,2,4,5-tetrasubstituted imidazoles was developed using a novel MCS-GT@Co(II) magnetically recoverable and recyclable catalyst under refluxing conditions with ethanol as a solvent. The catalyst was prepared by immobilization of chitosan onto Fe 3 O 4 using glutaraldehyde as crosslinker followed by Co(II) ion immobilization via cobalt acetate. The catalyst was characterized using various techniques. For organic products determination, 1 H… Show more

“…The XRD spectra was recorded via d‐spacing value. The XRD (Model: DY‐1656) was operated using 40 KV (Kilovolt) at 2 θ ° 10°–80° in diffraction patterns with Cu K α ( λ = 1.542 A o ), and accelerated with 1°/min counting rate (Baghayeri, Mahdavi, Hosseinpor‐Mohsen Abadi, & Farhadi, 2018; Kannan, Dhanuskodi, et al, 2020; Karthik et al, 2020; Singh & Rajput, 2018). Using XRD data, we applied Scherer's formula to calculate the size of the crystallite.…”

“…The higher catalytic activity exhibited by the catalyst in EtOH was supposed to be due to its higher dispersibilty in that solvent. [89,90] After deciding the best condition for temperature as well as for solvent, the need to optimize the required amount of the catalyst arises. For this the reaction was performed in the presence of various catalytic amount of LFO (5, 7.5, 10, 12.5 and 15 mg).…”

“…The recyclability of the catalyst was investigated in the model reaction under identical conditions. Due to its superparamagnetic character, the catalyst was recovered from the reaction mixture after completion of the reaction using an external magnet . The obtained catalyst was washed with ethanol and dried in an oven at 50°C.…”
