Coastal Flood Hazard Mapping

Abstract: Coastal flood hazard mapping (CoFHaM) is a tool used to determine flood zone limits inland and in other areas exposed to coastal floods due to different hazards such as storm, surge waves, sea level rise caused by climate change, inland storm surge, heavy rainfall, among others. Its areas are identified through maps made by one or more researchers using the Geographic Information System (GIS) software. Generally, its maps display particular levels of flood hazards and risks, with different parameters defined a… Show more

“…IMLA is consistent with the proposals of many authors [96][97][98]. A group of authors analyzed the diversity of natural landscapes measuring specific aspects such as natural heritage sites and natural viewpoints [28,53,[99][100][101]. Others used natural indicators, such as the diversity of relief, watercourses, coastal lagoons, estuaries and beaches [26,44,[102][103][104].…”

“…Landscape scientists will find IMLA useful in addressing the loss of identity and cultural heritage [99,100]. The method contributes to the implementation of the UNESCO Cultural Heritage Protection Act [105] that, in the study area, has one example declared as Cultural Heritage of Humanity: The Castle San Pedro de la Roca [106].…”
