Coaxial Feed Ultra-Wideband Microstrip Antenna for Medical Applications

Abstract: In this article, an ultra-wideband antenna has been presented for medical applications which have a resonant frequency of 10.35GHz and offers a bandwidth of 1400MHz with a return loss of -19db. The presented antenna is low-cost lightweight and can easily be integrated inside the circuit. As this antenna is designed for medical applications its size is compact and is fed utilizing a coaxial feeding technique which is especially plentiful for operative radiotherapy applications. The designed antenna is rectangul… Show more

“…The collective effect of multiple patch elements in the array results in higher overall gain compared to a single antenna element. Beamforming with a uniform linear array helps minimize interference and increases the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), leading to improved overall signal quality [18][19][20][21][22][23]. A uniform linear microstrip patch antenna array, shown in Figure 1, is advantageous for beamforming applications due to its ability to enhance gain, improve signal quality, and adapt to changing conditions.…”

“…A cylindrical shape tunable FSS design is proposed in [ 8 , 9 ] for dual band beam swiping of a dipole antenna. The electronic beam steering is achieved in [ 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 ] by employing hexagonal/cylindrical AFSS structures. To achieve compactness in size, substrate-based antennas are preferred, whereas to achieve the beam steering capabilities, reconfigurable partially reflective surfaces (PRSs) are employed.…”

“…It is comprised of a micro-strip patch antenna as a radiating source and a periodic or non-periodic array of geometrical patches or apertures made of the dielectric or metallic sheet as the PRS is located at the top of the source. The coaxial feed patch antennas are preferred in new designs due to their boresight radiation pattern and their compactness with the center feeding technique [ 15 ]. To enhance the directivity of an antenna at resonance, the distance between the source antenna and PRS should be a minimum of approximately a quarter of the wavelength.…”

“…the shared coupling between radiating elements within an array is responsible for achieving wide-angle beamforming in both linear and phased arrays [8]. Some of the techniques involved include adding multilayers of dielectric substrate [9]. A new circular-polarization waveguide antenna array utilizing innovative beamforming techniques is introduced.…”
