“…Previous literature has shown that even household products branded as "hypoallergenic" can contain ingredients that are prevalent allergens, such as cocamidopropyl betaine. 3,4 One retrospective study on 1142 children found that over-the-counter products branded as "gentle skin care" still often provoke symptoms of dermatitis. 5 Furthermore, recent prospective studies have demonstrated that patients often struggle to understand and recall the results of a patch test, especially those diagnosed with multiple allergens.…”

“…Allergic reactions were found to be mostly due to a contaminant in manufacture, DMAP, and reaction levels dropped with its removal. However, CAPB remains a cause of irritation and an article written by Collis in 2020 found it in marketed “hypoallergenic” wet wipes in the USA 29 . Another class of gentle surfactants, alkyl glucosides, is present in many brands of baby wipes, amongst other cosmetics 11 .…”

“…In one Polish study, CAPB was present in 30% of the analyzed 212 skin care products marketed for children 0–12 months of age [ 16 ]. It was also found to be an ingredient in a high proportion of “hypoallergenic” personal products for children [ 24 ]. Studies have also suggested a greater incidence of sensitization to CAPB in patients with atopic dermatitis [ 25 ].…”
