Cocatalyst Effect in Transition Metal Catalyzed Ethylene Polymerization and Copolymerization

Abstract: Transition-metal-based olefin polymerization catalysts usually require activation with a cocatalyst to initiate polymerization reactions. Borane type cocatalyst is one of the most important classes of cocatalysts that can significantly influence the catalytic performances. In this contribution, we designed and prepared a series of borane cocatalysts, and subsequently investigated their properties in a titanium-based Constrained Geometry Catalyst (CGC-Ti) catalyzed ethylene polymerization and ethylene/1-octene … Show more

“…37 Grafted B(C 6 F 5 ) 3 is also attracting increased academic and industrial interest due to the discrete nature of B(C 6 F 5 ) 3 , which has led to the unambiguous characterization of numerous catalytic systems. [38][39][40][41][42][43] Collins reported the treatment of silica or alumina with B(C 6 F 5 ) 3 , HB(C 6 F 5 ) 2 or ClB(C 6 F 5 ) 2 to obtain borane functionalized supports and further impregnated them with Cp 2 ZrMe 2 for ethylene polymerization with moderate activity in the presence of alkylaluminum compounds. The product possesses a higher molecular weight with a narrow molecular distribution.…”
