Codesigning a Measure of Person-Centred Coordinated Care to Capture the Experience of the Patient

Abstract: Background:Person-centred coordinated care (P3C) is a priority for stakeholders (ie, patients, carers, professionals, policy makers). As a part of the development of an evaluation framework for P3C, we set out to identify patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) suitable for routine measurement and feedback during the development of services. Methods:A rapid review of the literature was undertaken to identity existing PREMs suitable for the probing person-centred and/or coordinated care. Of 74 measures iden… Show more

“…The P3C-Patient Experience Questionnaire (P3C-EQ) is a brief, 11-item patient-completed measure of patient experiences of P3C delivery, which we have previously validated 32 38 39. The tool can be used to generate an aggregate score of patient experience,32 with a range of score from 0 to 30, where a higher score indicates better experiences of care 39. It can also be subscored to previously described subdomains of P3C 23 32 34–37…”

“…In SUSTAIN, we used the innovative Person Centred Coordinated Care Experience Questionnaire (P3CEQ) instrument which has explicitly been developed to measure the experiences of people with long-term conditions (e.g. older people with complex needs) with integrated care delivery [27]. Not withstanding its merits, we also encountered some challenges using this instrument that illustrate the complexity of capturing the voice of vulnerable target groups concerning complex constructs which are described in the paper by Reynolds et al [14].…”

“…With this in mind and after much deliberation within the SUSTAIN consortium, we selected the P3CEQ [39] [ 40] , and the PCHC [41] , the latter validated for our population group. At the time of selection, the P3CEQ was relatively new but seemed suitable for administration across all sites and intervention types.…”
