Several longitudinal studies have found associations between loneliness and decreased cognitive function at follow-up ( Hannemann et al, 2020 ; Lara et al, 2019 ; Zhou et al, 2019 ), but mechanisms remain largely unknown ( Kidambi and Lee, 2020 ).
