Cognitive health care system and its application in pill‐rolling assessment

Abstract: Directional antennas have been extensively used in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for various applications. This work presents the application of a four‐beam patch antenna as a sensor node to assess the pill‐rolling effect in Parkinson disease. The four‐beam patch is small in size, highly directive, and can suppress the multipath fading encountered in indoor settings that adversely affects the measurements. The pill‐rolling effect refers to tremors in the hands, particularly in the forefinger and the thumb, w… Show more

“…Radar technology can be used to monitor the respiratory system within a home environment and provide a quick response if abnormalities are found, which suggests COVID-19 being present. Radar systems use frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) to observe the Doppler effect when a person moves [ 67 , 68 , 69 , 70 ]. This can be used to monitor the fine movements associated with breathing.…”

“…The developed system was a low-cost framework that evaluates the movement disorder using the S-band sensing platform leveraging wireless devices working at 2.4 GHz. The system efficiently classifies tremor and non-tremor feelings in the fingers [ 69 ]. A particular body movement of multiple sclerosis patients is monitored by a C-band sensing system working at 4.8 GHz, and especially the tremors and breathing patterns by a 5 G potential band.…”
