Background Cognitive retraining or remediation approaches dispense high levels of stimulation and new learning tasks, leading to an increased neural connections, which facilitate rapid recovery in patients with neurological as well as psychiatric conditions. Objectives The current study aimed to investigate the effect of cognitive retraining (CR) in depressive disorders. We assigned 40 patients with mild to moderate depression to two sample groups, with 20 participants each: CR alone and CR with medicine. A 6-week CR module was delivered, and participants’ scores on measures such as the Beck Depression Inventory-II, Metacognition Questionnaire 30, World Health Organization Quality of Life- Brief, and Global Assessment of Functioning were compared. Results Analysis using Stata/IC version 16 included descriptive statistics, paired and independent t-tests, analysis of covariance, and propensity score matching. Cohen's d was computed to determine the effect size. Within-group analysis revealed statistically significant differences in pre-post scores of the outcome measures (p < .05) and large effect size (d = 3.41; d = 3.60) in both groups. The difference in scores of outcome measures between the groups was not significant (p > .05) even when covariates were controlled, or nearest neighbor match analysis was carried out. CR is effective in alleviating symptoms and dysfunctional metacognitive beliefs in addition to enhancing functioning and quality of life. Conclusions CR-based interventions may be essential mental health services owing to growing research in psychotherapy via virtual modes such as tele- and video-conferencing. These interventions can substantiate both prevention and remedy.

IntroductionEmployment is recognized as a fundamental human right, which correlates with better physical and mental health. Importantly, well-designed work, which considers the physical, social, and psychological impacts of work, can serve to enhance the cognitive abilities of workers. Although often overlooked, work for individuals with disabilities, including cognitive impairments, is equally important for their physical and mental well-being. What has not been established, however, is whether well-designed work can also enhance the cognitive abilities of individuals with cognitive impairments.MethodsUsing a longitudinal study design, we investigated the impact of well-designed work on the cognitive abilities of 60 participants (operators) at the AMIPI Foundation factories, which employ individuals with cognitive impairments to produce electrical cables and harnesses for the automobile industry. The same operators were assessed at three different time points: upon hiring (n = 60), and after working in the factory for 1 year (n = 41, since 19 left the factory) and 2 years (n = 28, since 13 more left the factory). We used five cognitive tests evaluating: (1) finger and manual dexterity, bimanual dexterity, and procedural memory using the Purdue Pegboard; (2) sustained and selective attention using the Symbol Cancellation Task; (3) short- and long-term declarative verbal memory and long-term verbal recognition memory using Rey's Audio-Verbal Learning Test; (4) short- and long-term visual recognition memory using the Continuous Visual Memory Test; and (5) abstract reasoning using Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices.ResultsWe observed improvements in procedural memory, sustained and selective attention, and short- and long-term visual recognition memory after working in the factory for 1 or 2 years. We did not observe improvements in finger or manual dexterity or bimanual dexterity, nor short- or long-term declarative verbal memory or verbal recognition memory, nor abstract reasoning.DiscussionWe conclude that, in addition to improving physical and mental well-being, well-designed manufacturing work can serve as a training intervention improving some types of cognitive functioning in individuals with cognitive impairments.

With the increasing attention and importance placed on children's health, more and more people hope for a more scientific and effective method to prevent and treat common diseases in children. Child rehabilitation has also become an important direction in medical development. However, traditional rehabilitation training models have various problems such as regional limitations, uneven resource allocation, and low patient participation, resulting in unsatisfactory rehabilitation effects. This paper aims to explore the application of modern information technology in the remote rehabilitation training system, analyze the role and advantages of various technologies in rehabilitation training, and how to integrate these technological convergence into the remote rehabilitation training system, so as to achieve "intelligence" in the true sense, and provide reference for improving the quality of life of patients and promoting the sustainable development of medical cause. A randomized scientific control was designed to evaluate the application effect of modern information technology in children's remote rehabilitation training system. Group A was set to receive remote rehabilitation training based on modern information technology, and Group B was set to receive traditional rehabilitation training. The experimental results showed that the average score of children's daily living ability in Group A was about 34.6 points, while that in Group B was about 31.2 points. It has been proven that modern information technology has great feasibility in the practical application of remote rehabilitation training systems for children. It can not only improve the efficiency of rehabilitation training, but also greatly improve the physical and mental health level of patients. Modern information technology, characterized by high digitization, networking, and multimedia, has rapidly popularized in various industries and fields. Utilizing these advanced technologies to build rehabilitation systems suitable for various populations is an imperative trend and a promising topic.
