“…However, whether this concentration shows certain toxicity was not mentioned. The concentration of coixol in the current study was higher than that in other in vitro studies [23,24]. The concentration difference may be related to the type of cells.…”

“…Coixol is an extract from coix and has been studied for its bioactivity since the 1980s [19]. The reported biological activities of coixol include but are not limited to the regulation of reproductive behavior and hormones [20], antimicrobial and antitumor activity [21,22], inhibition of mucin secretion [23], and enhancement of insulin secretion [24]. The anti-inflammatory effect of coixol has not been reported, although some other extracts of coix have shown anti-inflammatory activity [17,25].…”

“…Coixol, an alkaloid from Scoparia dulcis , significantly improves glucose tolerance and fasting blood glucose levels in streptozotocin-induced diabetic SD rats. This progress is significantly inhibited by the PKA inhibitor H-89 (50 μM) and Epac2 inhibitor MAY0132 (50 μM), indicating that coixol enhances insulin secretion by the cAMP signaling pathway [ 50 ]. Therefore, in the pancreas, the dietary bioactive ingredients targeting cAMP provide a new strategy for the promotion of insulin secretion and protection of pancreatic islets.…”
