Coke Quenching Plenum Equipment Corrosion and Its Dependents on the Quality of the Biochemically Treated Water of the Coke-Chemical Production

Abstract: Steel corrosion processes that occur due to the effects of the biochemically treated water in coke quenching plenums have been studied. Model investigations into the processes of the corrosion failure of carbon St. 3 steel and alloyed 18Х1MF steel were carried out to study the behavior of the metal exposed to the action of the primary but treated water used for the coke quenching after the metal is heated to 373 K and 773 K. Different types of the corrosion that results from the contact of the carbon steel and… Show more

“…3 Therefore, the selection of pipe material grades with higher corrosion resistance and the treatment of the circulating water have been considered as preventive measures. 4 In the specialized literature, empirical equations such as those of Darcy Weisbach, Colebrook-White, Renouard, Weymouth, Cox, and others, have been identified; whose purpose is to provide the methodology to follow to estimate the pressure drop of gas flows. Likewise, and as the basis for this study, we highlight the empirical equation of Dr.…”

“…Optimization of the CDQ process will allow minimizing the abovementioned disadvantages. Works on improving the CDQ process are carried out in various directions. One of the directions for such optimization is the technology development for the uniform distribution of coke in the quenching chamber. Therefore, the research purpose described in the article is to find a solution in which each class of coke will be evenly distributed across the section of the quenching chamber.…”

“…Metallurgical production requires the use of carbon and hydrogen-containing reducing agents such as coke, coal and natural gas. The quality of coke is one of the main parameters that determine the progress and results of blast furnace smelting [6][7][8] . Given that coke is the most expensive component of the cast iron charge, the task of reducing its consumption is always relevant.…”
