“…Patidar et al observed, 47% of Enterobacter were carbapenem-resistant in a study in India which is in accordance with our findings (24). Although our finding is lower than a study by Mashaly who reported carbapenem-resistance among Egyptian patients was 53% (25). This prevalence is also consistent with recent reports of surveillance studies of carbapenem resistance among patients with HAI caused by Gram-negative bacteria in Egypt (54.1%) (26) and in India (53.84%) (27).…”

“…From the starting population, 105/115 (93.9 %) were susceptible to colistin with MICs ranging from 0.125 to 2 mg l −1 . Population analysis revealed that 14.8 % of isolates developed heteroresistance with MICs ranging from 0.25 to 2 mg l −1 although colonies from heteroresistance subpopulations were able to grow even in higher colistin concentrations (16 mg l −1 ) [23]. Based on our findings and the above studies, heteroresistance should be taken into account before administration of colistin.…”

“… 23 Also, the well‐known heteroresistance phenomenon, mainly described in Enterobacter spp., could be presented in these isolates making it difficult to confront MICs interpretations because it likes to produce different MICs results. 24 , 25 This phenomenon has been well described in Enterobacte r spp. ; however, we observed it in K. pneumoniae , similar to those described by Fóldes et al 26 Additionally, the possibility of some technical mistakes associated with pipetting cannot be excluded, due to the fact that our study was performed under a routinary laboratory workflow.…”

“…Errors in MIC values of 2 μg/ml were not observed, but only 17 isolates were included 23 . Also, the well‐known heteroresistance phenomenon, mainly described in Enterobacter spp., could be presented in these isolates making it difficult to confront MICs interpretations because it likes to produce different MICs results 24,25 . This phenomenon has been well described in Enterobacte r spp.…”
