“…First, by relating single gestures to the Function Behaviour Structure (FBS) framework (Gero & Kannengiesser, 2004;Gero, 1990), we explicitly address one of the issues highlighted by Eris et al (2014) in their discussion of Tang et al's (2011) work. Second, by extending the characterisation of archetypal sequences of gestures, we contribute to the integration of understanding across design contexts, linking explicitly to Yasui (2013). Third, the identified gesture sequences (compound reflective, compound directed, mirroring, modification) are examined in detail via a qualitative analysis of concurrent gesture, speech, and other body language, with a particular focus on the communication of interactions between the functions and between the parts of the device to be designed.…”
