Collar style design of women's suit based on Kansei engineering

Abstract: To understand the influence of flat collar, closure collar, and shawl collar on the perceptual impression of women's suits, 12 pairs of adjectives used to describe the collar type of suits were determined by using the method of perceptual engineering and semantic difference. With the help of virtual fitting technology, 22 kinds of suit simulation pictures were drawn. Through the questionnaire survey, this paper studied the perceptual evaluation of different collar types of women's suits and then used the mean … Show more

“…Kansei Engineering involves the transformation of emotional elements into design elements through analysis of users' perceptual cognition to help designers create schemes. This method was widely applied in different domains, such as product design, clothing design, and others, and was often used to evaluate design schemes, extract cultural features, and analyze user images [50,51].…”

“…Some other scholars began to conduct research on Kansei engineering for the specific styling preferences of particular groups of people: for example, Yoon et al limited the research object to youth in China and examined the interior styling preference of automobiles that were suitable for this group [ 31 ]; Dewi limited the research object to rehabilitated patients following a stroke and investigated the styling design of rehabilitated bicycles [ 32 ]; Chen et al conducted a study of home professional women's vests [ 33 ]; and Li et al conducted a survey of collar design in professional women's clothing [ 34 ]. Thus, Kansei engineering research on styling design can be targeted at specific populations or single attribute spaces [ 35 ], and it can use a quantitative approach to establish a model of the relationship between the features of product styling and semantic features.…”
