The widespread of the World Wide Web has resulted in a high volume of volunteered generated information using different formats including text, photography and video. The technological advances of recent years enabled the emergence and the popularization of various mobile devices equipped with GPS and connectivity to the Internet. This scenario contributed to the advent of several location-based applications and aroused the interest of many users in the geographical context of the information. An example of such applications are the Location-Based Social Networks (LBSN), in which the users interact with information classified by geographic region, as in the context of Smart Cities, in which citizens can interact pinning their criticisms, opinions and comments on various topics related to their city or neighborhood. The LBSNs have increasingly attracted the interest of the population and have consequently registered an increase in both the number of users interacting and the volume of shared information. This popularity brings up concerns about scalability, since it is essential to provide an environment that maintains the users active and motivated for contributing. Thus, the LBSNs must ensure acceptable response times, especially in spatial queries performed by their users, otherwise such applications may collapse due to the abandonment of their faithful users. Among several proposals of LBSNs in the community, it is still difficult to find out approaches concerned in scalability. In this context, this paper proposes an approach based on Big Data technologies to provide scalability in LBSNs and thus handle large volumes of spatial data. Our approach exploits NoSQL databases, the Map/Reduce technique and the development of extensions for indexing and querying Spatial Big Data. KEYWORDS:

Abstract:The increasing availability of sensor devices has resulted in important volumes of sensor data, which has raised the issue of making these data fully discoverable and interpretable by applications and end-users. The idea of OGC Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) has addressed this issue by proposing a set of standards to enable accessibility of sensor data over the Web. Similarly, there is a growing interest in volunteered geographic information (VGI). Considering that several researchers have highlighted the potential of this new type of information as a complement to existing, "traditional" data, it becomes important to develop frameworks to support the integration of VGI from several sources and with other types of data. In this paper, we make a first step in this direction by proposing a framework for the semantic interoperability of sensor data and VGI. After having performed an investigation of the types of VGI applications, we have developed a conceptual model of VGI aligned with relevant ISO standards for describing geospatial features. The purpose of this model is to support the generation of common descriptions for VGI applications, which will act as interfaces to higher-level services, such as discovery and reasoning services, in order to be exploited in conjunction with sensor data by client applications. This process is described through architecture for semantic interoperability of sensor data and VGI that we have developed and that we intend to use to set guidelines for future research on integration of VGI in sensor data cyberinfrastructures. Abstract. Witnesses are of the utmost importance in emergency systems since they can trigger timely location-based status alerts. However, their collaboration with the authorities can get impaired for the fear of the people of being involved with someone, some place, or even with the same cause of the emergency. Anonymous reporting solutions can encourage the witnesses, but they also pose a threat of system collapse if the authority receives many fake reports. In this paper, we propose an emergency reporting system that ensures the anonymity of honest witnesses but is able to disclose the identity and punish the malicious ones. The system is designed over an online social network that facilitates the indistinguishability of the witness among a group of users. We use a game-theoretic approach based on the co-privacy (co-utility) principles to encourage the users of the network to participate in the protocol. We also use discernible ring signatures to provide the property of conditional anonymity. In addition, the system is designed to provide rewards to a witness and his/her group members in a privacy-preserving manner.
