“…This finding suggests that undergraduates may be at greater risk for suicidal ideation than graduate students. The experience of leaving home and separating from one's family, forming new social networks on campus, and grappling with identity issues common in emerging adulthood (Westefeld et al, 2006) might be a particularly stressful experience for Asian American undergraduates. Thus, we anticipated that Asian American undergraduate students would be at greater risk for suicidal ideation compared to Asian American graduate students.…”

“…One variable that researchers have widely considered to be an early diagnostic hallmark of suicide risk is the presence of suicidal ideation (e.g., Farabaugh et al 2015;Reynolds 1991b). Thus, it is not surprising that a variety of suicidal ideation (SI) measures have been developed by researchers in efforts to assess for, and ultimately treat, early indicators of suicide risk in young adults (Batterham et al 2015;Paladino and Minton 2008;Westefeld et al 2006). …”

“…[13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20] It is estimated that almost 19.4% of the Iranian university students are smokers, 3.9% use illegal drugs, and 10.1% use alcohol. 21 Despite the growing epidemic of suicide among university students and its residual effects, 22,23 the risk factors of suicide among university students have not been properly investigated particularly in developing countries. Unless reliable information about the burden and causes of suicide behaviors is collected, it is difficult or even impossible to design effective intervention strategies and carry out preventive measures.…”
