Colonia 3D Communication of Virtual 3D Reconstructions in Public Spaces

Abstract: The communication of cultural heritage in public spaces such as museums or exhibitions, gain more and more importance during the last years. The possibilities of interactive 3D applications open a new degree of freedom beyond the mere presentation of static visualizations, such as pre-produced video or image data. A user is now able to directly interact with 3D virtual environments that enable the depiction and exploration of digital cultural heritage artifacts in real-time. However, such technology requires c… Show more

“…Three-dimensional visualization of real estate information can effectively implement function as estate information release and display, real estate transaction, real estate planning, residential property management so on and so forth [8]. In our research, 3D models of building were crafted in 3ds Max on the basis of graphic and attribute data of buildings in the campus, and a 3D scene was established realizing the three-dimensional visualization.…”

“…Several advantages can be derived from creating and visiting virtual museums:  unrestricted accessibility regardless of time and location;  the capacity to display ancient monuments and objects in their complete form;  (virtual) access to otherwise (physically) inaccessible places in a monument;  the capacity to interact with the museum's objects;  the capacity to enable virtual tourism (Maiorescu and Sabou, 2013;El Hakim et al, 2004);  the capacity to use simulation and recreation as educational tools (Politis and Marras, 2008);  the capacity to access complex museum presentations as reconstructed objects alone, or in their historical contexts, as well as objects augmented with explanations;  an educational exploration at reduced cost, requiring only a good Internet connection;  interactive communication of cultural heritage in public spaces (Trapp et al, 2012).…”

“…In contrast, the number of papers that is closely related 3D modelling for heritage is rapidly growing with more than 4000 peer-reviewed journal articles. Most of the articles on 3D modelling are on digitizing heritage and visualizing it on interactive platforms such as in Biljecki et al, 2015 andTrapp et al, 2012. Approaches to create 3D models for heritage are developing quickly with special attention to the preserving the complexity of shape (Brumana et al, 2022), ensuring high accuracy, and dealing with heterogeneity of end users (Shabani et al, 2021). These are very positive developments, and they have to be further extended to provide more functionality.…”
