Colonic lipoma of the hepatic flexure causing invagination in an adult

Abstract: Intussusception is a rare condition in adults that can lead to intestinal obstruction due to malignant or benign lesions in the wall of the colon. Among the benign causes, lipomas are adipose tissue tumors that are most frequently located in the ascending colon. Invagination is characterized by nonspecific symptoms and normal laboratory test results. The exact point of invagination can be detected using advanced imaging studies such as abdominal computed tomography and colonoscopy. Invagination is treated surg… Show more

“…[10] Examining the potential impact of dietary habits, physical activity, and genetic predisposition on the development and progression of colon lipomas could provide pivotal insights into preventive strategies and risk stratification. [11] The integration of such preventative measures can foster a holistic approach to patient care, encompassing not only treatment but also risk mitigation and health promotion. [12] The results of this retrospective cohort study with 25 patients help us learn more about colon lipomas by showing us how they look, where they are located in the body, what other diseases they may be associated with, and how to treat them.…”

“…The symptoms are non-specific and the bypass point causing the intussusception is usually detected by advanced imaging studies. 11 Adult intussusception does not have specific clinical manifestations, unlike the classic triad of pediatric intussusception symptoms such as: abdominal pain, vomiting, and jam-like stools. Abdominal CT scan is considered the most useful examination for these cases, but specific causes require intraoperative detection or postoperative pathology to clarify.…”
