Colorimetric Study on Polyamides Dyeing With Weld and Pomegranate Peel Natural Dyes

Abstract: In this research, yellow color on nylon was produced by dyeing with weld (Reseda luteola) and pomegranate peel as natural dyes. The aluminum potassium sulphate salt was used as mordanting agent and four different methods of dyeing as non-mordanting, pre-mordanting, meta-mordanting, and after-mordanting were applied. The dyeing behavior of dyes was assessed by colorimetric evaluations and fastness properties. The spectrophotometric properties of dyed samples were also studied by Principal Component Analysis (PC… Show more

“…In two current studies that included tests for colorfastness to crocking (wet and dry) on silk and nylon, mordanting had either no effect on or slightly decreased colorfastness to crocking [18,19]. The results of these two studies combined with the results of the current study appear to confirm that, with the exception of the yellow pigment, mordanting is not a successful way to improve colorfastness to crocking.…”

“…In a study on nylon dyed with weld and pomegranate peel [19], mordanting did increase colorfastness to washing. In the current study, polyester dyed with xylindein was colorfast to washing both with and without a mordant, again demonstrating xylindein's superior colorfastness.…”

“…This could be because of pigments from peel. Peel consisted of N-methyl granatonine which reported as yellow and brown alkaloid [11]. 40±2.08d Note: The liking was scored on a 9-point scale from 9=like extremely to 1=dislike extremely (n=45).…”

“…Compared to the pulp, the inedible pomegranate peel contains as much as three times the total amount of polyphenols, including condensed tannins, catechins, gallocatechins and prodelphinidins. Due to the higher phenolic content of the peel extracts yields, they are used in dietary supplements and food preservatives [14,15,18,19]. Also, pomegranate is used for antibacterial finishing of cotton fabric (Table 1) [20][21][22][23][24][25][26].…”
