Combined effect of whole-body vibration and ambient lighting on human discomfort, heart rate, and reaction time

Abstract: Whole-body vibration is an important factor in the development of human subjective and physiological reactions compared to lighting. Therefore, consideration of the level of vibration to which an individual is exposed in workplaces subject to vibration plays an important role in reducing the level of human discomfort, but its interaction with ambient lighting does not have a significant effect on human subjective and physiological responses.

“…The basic principle of WBV is that subjects are susceptible to three-dimensional vibration stimulation when they stand on a vibrating platform. Vibration then stimulates muscle spindles and activates α-motoneurons [4]. Muscle contraction is often stimulated by a stretch reflex during vibration.…”

“…These interactions are indicating the theoretical possibility that sound, heat, and internal light directly affect cognitive processes without general or partial mediation, at least not in the way that the inverse U hypothesis suggests. In the same context, Monazzam et al 47 have observed that an increase in vibration acceleration significantly improved discomfort and heart rate; however, it did not affect the reaction time. The results of the referred study also suggested that vibration and illuminance did not have a significant combined effect on the variables of discomfort, heart rate, and reaction time.…”

“…Both durations have not shown any significant difference but showed medium-sized effects of condition with the peak plantar flexor torque [39]. A previous study has focused on the individual's characteristics based on a previous study conducted in athletes [42]. These findings indicate that participants who showed a significant increase in contractile properties are not necessarily those showing the most significant performance improvements following acute exercise [39].…”

“…Based on a previous study, the vibratory device was placed over the mid-belly of the biceps brachii, and considering its flexible design with the strap and device itself, the muscles applied with vibration can be enclosed. The vibratory panels of the device were placed lateral, medial, superior, and inferior to the center of the muscle [42].…”
