Combined Experimental and Mechanoelastic Modeling Studies on the Low-Spin Stabilized Mixed Crystals of 3D Oxalate-Based Coordination Materials

Mousumi Dutta,
Shubham Bisht,
Prabir Ghosh
et al.

Abstract: Structural studies involving single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analysis have been performed on dehydrated coordination networks of the [Ni x Co 1−x (bpy) 3 ][LiCr(ox) 3 ] series, 0 ≤ x ≤ 1, (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine). The high-symmetry cubic 3D structure of these materials is formed by oxalate anions bridging alternating Cr 3+ and Li + ions into an anionic framework, which contains large cavities that incorporate the [Ni x Co 1−x (bpy) 3 ] 2+ cations. Irrespective of the Co/Ni ratio, all of the mixed sa… Show more

“…The Cr–S bonds have nearly identical distances (Figure ), and the peripheral N-cyano groups do not have any significant intermolecular interactions. This symmetric anionic unit could be used as a CP building block in a similar fashion to the well-utilized [M(oxalate) 3 ] x – species; such efforts are currently in progress with this and the anionic Pb(II) and Bi(III)-based units described herein.…”

“…Solid solutions of SCO materials with isomorphous, inert dopants are an established tool for elucidating the lattice energetics of SCO processes. 38–55 We, and others, have also investigated doping as a way to introduce new functionality into SCO materials. 42,55–60 Two examples are particularly relevant to this work, where doping a complex into a host lattice changes its spin state properties.…”
