Combined Magnesia, Ceria and Nickel catalyst supported over γ-Alumina Doped with Titania for Dry Reforming of Methane

Abstract: This study investigated dry reforming of methane (DRM) over combined catalysts supported on γ-Al2O3 support doped with 3.0 wt. % TiO2. Physicochemical properties of all catalysts were determined by inductively coupled plasma/mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), nitrogen physisorption, X-ray diffraction, temperature programmed reduction/oxidation/desorption/pulse hydrogen chemisorption, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. Addition of CeO2 and MgO to Ni strengthened the interaction between the N… Show more

“…For all the temperatures studied, CO 2 conversion was higher than CH 4 conversion, suggesting the occurrence of a reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction. 44 At lower temperatures, the conversions are much lower than the equilibrium conversions, consistent with most prior reports for the DRM reaction. However, the numbers are comparable to the CH 4 and CO 2 conversions reported at low temperatures in other studies.…”

“…As mentioned earlier, the reaction occurs at a relatively high space velocity, and the residence time is insufficient for the gasification of all carbon deposits. 44 For each of the spent catalysts, except for NiMgO-F, the formation of carbon nanotubes or fibers was observed in TEM imaging (Figure 4d−g). Such one-dimensional carbon deposits were not found in the spent NiMgO-F catalyst.…”

“…Dry reforming of methane (DRM) uses a favorable reaction that transforms two greenhouse gases, methane and carbon dioxide, into a synthesis gas, which is a beneficial product [1][2][3][4][5]. Moreover, DRM can be a potential process for the improvement of biogas composed largely by CO 2 and CH 4 [6,7].…”
