Combined Nonablative Skin Rejuvenation with the 595- and 1450-nm Lasers

Abstract: Wavelengths of 595 plus 1450 nm for skin rejuvenation produced good results with much higher patient satisfaction than those obtained with the 595- or 1450-nm wavelengths alone.

“…In addition, these shorter pulse durations may have different results than pulse-durations of 6 milliseconds and longer on fine lines and wrinkles, and enlarged pores. In patients with fine lines and wrinkles, enlarge pores, acne, and acne scarring, the PDL is often combined with an infrared laser such as the 1,450 nm laser, during the same treatment session [15,16]. The addition of the second laser appears to result in greater improvement in rhytides and acne than either laser alone [15,16].…”

The addition of the second laser appears to result in greater improvement in rhytides and acne than either laser alone [15,16]. Future studies to further optimize treatment parameters for a variety of skin types and conditions, should enable even more consistent improvement in photodamaged skin using the PDL, which has a long history of safety and efficacy in treating a myriad of cutaneous conditions.…”

“…The very good histological evidence of tightening of the typically elastotic dermis failed to be echoed in a younger-looking epidermis, and patient satisfaction with single modality non-ablative skin rejuvenation was extremely low (7)(8)(9)(10). The combination of single modality systems based on wavelength-specific photobiological precepts produced much better visible results (11)(12)(13).…”

“…Elimination of oxidized proteins is mainly achieved through degradation by the proteasomal system (6,7) while certain oxidative protein modifications such as oxidation of methionine residues can be reversed within proteins by the methionine sulfoxide reductases (Msrs) system which represents one of the few repair mechanisms for oxidized proteins (8)(9)(10). Both systems have been documented to generally exhibit an age-related decline (11)(12)(13), notably for the proteasome in human epidermal cells and dermal fibroblasts (14)(15)(16)(17).…”
