We thank Rivano Fischer and Stålnacke (RF & S) for their comments on our article entitled "The value of interdisciplinary treatment (IDT) for sickness absence in chronic pain: a nationwide register-based cohort study" (Fischer & Stålnacke, 2021;LoMartire et al., 2021). Most of their criticism was addressed in our article. Based on the Swedish Quality Registry for Pain Rehabilitation (SQRP) data, both our study and the study by Rivano Fischer et al. ( 2019) report that IDT is associated with within-group decreases in sick leave. These real-world results are important because systematic reviews (SRs) are not in consensus. Perhaps, one may expect more prominent decreases of sick leave (adjusted figures) in IDT than in the comparison group. However, according to Swedish guidelines, IDT should be offered to complex chronic pain patients so that is not necessarily a correct expectation.
