“…We read with great interest the report of the study by Brigo et al, 1 entitled "Terminology of psychogenic nonepileptic seizures," which showed, with a search of PubMed and Google, a broad spectrum of terms used to refer to psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) and questioned whether it would be useful to use a substitute for the term. The authors suggested the alternative term "functional nonepileptic events," because "it would refer to a functional disturbance of the nervous system, as opposed to a structural pathology, and would avoid the potentially confounding term 'seizure'.…”
