This article illuminates the role of the midwifery Clinical Practice Facilitator (CPF) which is currently unique to London trusts and universities. Since its implementation it has quickly established its worth in both clinical and educational settings. There are many challenges and much scope for innovation. The aim of this article is to illustrate why the role was created, how the role has been developed and to provide some clarity for this diverse role. This article is a reflection of some of the experiences and achievements during the first year of its implementation. The authors have included a ‘day in the life of …’ to provide readers with further insight into the role of the CPF.
