“…Dean (1968) found alienation negatively related to marital adjustment, while Dean (1966), Dean and Lucas (1979) and Cole et aL (1980) all found a significant, positive relationship between emotional maturity and marital adjustment. If we accept Rosner's model (1982) that alienation and commitment are polar types, then the research by Dean and Spanier (1974), where a positive correlation was found between commitment and marital adjustment, would add further evidence of an inverse relationship between alienation and emotional immaturity. Thus, there is strong evidence that alienation is negatively related to coping with one's problems, while emotional maturity is positively related.…”
