Common Contact Sensitizers among Patients with Hand Eczema: A Multicenter-Study in Nepal

Abstract: Introduction: Allergic contact dermatitis in Nepal is not an uncommon disorder. Patch testing is a well established method of diagnosing allergic contact dermatitis. Patients with contact dermatitis are well known to have impaired quality of life which often leads to frequent dermatological consultations.

“…Nickel sulphate was the most common allergen in various studies including the two studies from Nepal (Table 6). 7,9,12,16,18,19 Nickel sulphate (51.4%) and fragrance mix (37.8%) were the most common allergens in our study. Nickel sulphate followed by fragrance mix were also the most common allergens seen in the systematic review and meta-analysis study of Alinaghi et al 2 Both Hussain et al 17 and Freireich-Astman et al 19 also showed nickel sulphate to be the most common allergen.…”
